Toyota is set to give its affordable GT86 sports car a series of light cosmetic enhancements ready for the 2017 model year

These are the first spy pictures of the facelifted Toyota GT86, which is expected to be unveiled towards the end of next year and go on sale in time for the 2017 model year.

A wider front bumper is the most obvious change on this latest GT86, complete with a wider air intake and redesigned light clusters. At the rear, a reprofiled rear bumper and boot-mounted spoiler can be seen, alongside larger dual exhausts.

No mechanical upgrades are expected in this latest series of updates, meaning power and torque outputs from the GT86's 2.0-litre flat-four boxer engine will remain the same as before, at 197bhp and 151lb ft respectively. The standard GT86 can reach 62mph from a standing start in 7.6 seconds, and has a top speed of 140mph.

Toyota only recently announced a series of updates for the GT86 in May. Those changes involved a series of subtle styling changes as well as the launch of a new entry-level model, the £22,700 Primo edition. The same updates also allowed the GT86's engine to comply to stricter Euro 6 emissions standards.

Although a low-volume model, the GT86 continues to be a success story for Toyota, with 1042 examples sold in this country in 2014 and 455 units sold in the first eight months of this year.
