Caterham has a clearout

Caterham has a raft of part-exchange models heading its way and so needs some more space. That's its rationale for selling off twelve of its most famous Sevens in an auction lasting from 20th to 27th February.

There are some gems in the list: the Superlight R500 that broke the 0-100mph-0 record in 2002 (it took 11.44 seconds); an Autosport 50th anniversary special edition Roadsport, one of only nine built; the Nurburgring Superlight R400 racer from 2002.

That latter car won its class at the Nordschliefe, blitzing past much grander opposition to 11th place overall. Sadly this was deemed rather too fast, and the Caterham was banned from defending its title.

The preview day is Saturday 18th February and bidding, by phone or email, starts on Monday 20th for seven days. To register, go to www.caterham.co.uk/auction after 13th February or call 01883 333700. There’s the soapbox car from the 2003 soapbox challenge, too.
