Prospective Mazda owners in North America probably face a short delay - and here's why.
Inside the 'Cougar Ace', now listing at 60 degrees off the coast of Alaska, are the mortal remains of 4700 Mazdas. Around 60 per cent of them are Mazda 3s; the remainder of the cargo is made up of the new CX-7 SUVs.
As they were strapped in with heavy chains, some salvaging may be possible (but looking at these photos it's hard to imagine more than a few survivors). However, the ship is apparently in no danger of sinking.
The 23 crew members have all been rescued; the fate of the Mazdas is less certain.
