Radical concept previews future family car as Japanese brand expands upmarket

This striking image is the first glimpse of Suzuki’s forthcoming new Mondeo rival. The Kizashi concept will be making its debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September, and takes Suzuki in a new direction. Preciously the Japanese firm has concentrated on small cars and compact off-roaders, but now it wants to expand its range upwards. While this first image of the concept doesn’t look much like a family saloon, Kizashi is Japanese for prelude or foretaste, so expect the production version to be seriously toned down. Even so, it looks likely to be an interesting car when it arrives at the end of the decade.Suzuki will also be showing its rather more sedate Splash city car at Frankfurt. The Splash – sister car to the Vauxhall Agila – goes on sale in the UK early in 2008.
