Fiat dismisses claims that it could assume a third of Chrysler's debt

Fiat has denied claims by Chrysler that it will shoulder some of the struggling US manufacturer's debt if the two companies link up.

Chrysler, which is planning a tie-up with Fiat, told the US government on Thursday that Fiat would take on more than a third of the struggling US car manufacturer’s debt.

A statement from Fiat, however, dismissed Chrysler’s claims: “Fiat Group intends to make it absolutely clear that the proposed alliance will not entail the assumption of any current or future indebtedness of Chrysler.”
