New LaFerrari driven; greatest Ferraris revisited; BMW i8 tested; Porsche Cayenne coupé revealed; Vauxhall VXR8 GTS road test; Ayrton Senna remembered

One of the most hotly anticipated cars of 2014 takes to the cover this week: the new 950bhp LaFerrari.

Steve Sutcliffe pushes Maranello's latest hypercar to its limits at Ferrari's Fiorano test track, uncovering whether the Ferrari is just more than a technical tour de force. Suffice it to say that you won't be disappointed by the company's efforts.

We also pay homage to LaFerrari's founding fathers, revisiting the fabled 288 GTO, F40, F50 and Enzo to see just how the pinnacle of Ferrari's range has evolved.

Populating the news section is the latest on Audi's luxury Q8 crossover, plans for a Porsche Cayenne coupé and the details of a new Mercedes-Benz G-class that's due to arrive in 2017.

It's not all about cars this week though, as we take a moment to reflect on the anniversary of the death of Ayrton Senna, remembering him 20 years after that fateful day.

Elsewhere, fixed firmly under the road testers' spotlight, is the new BMW M5-baiting Vauxhall VXR8 GTS. Can it usurp its more costly rivals? Find out in our comprehensive eight-page test.

We've also have first drives of the forward-looking hybrid BMW i8 sports car, the Porsche 911 50th Anniversary Edition and a Toyota Verso with a new diesel engine.

Joining the Autocar long-term test fleet this week is Audi's sleek new A3 saloon and Mazda's all-new Mazda 3 hatchback; further updates include how we've been getting on with the family-focused Citroën C4 Picasso.

Meanwhile, our used buying guide focuses on what to look for when you're considering buying the classic BMW E30 M3.
