Pictures reveal mildly more aggressive look, plus plusher interior design
4 April 2012

Pictures of the revised Mercedes GL have leaked out, ahead of its official unveiling at today's New York motor show.

No details of the refreshed, Audi Q7 rivalling seven-seater have been released, but the pictures show the GL has been given a slightly more aggressive exterior look and a plusher interior.

The new GL is expected to go on sale in the UK this autumn.

Ughh!! Looks like the front of a truck.

I have always liked the GL class.

A few of my friends have bought them for their wives troop carrier...trying to out trump my ML's! but all except one- who has a large brood and needs the space- admit it was a mistake as they are just not designed for dear old blighty's roads and more especially parking spaces.

Great drive though, fantastic on the long haul to the Highlands with 4 people and all their Salmon fishing gear. Great motorway car, and then highly capable over testing terrain off- road when driving to the beats on the river.

Secretly I would like one, but the impracticalities of the sheer size put me off.

This may turn out to be a brilliant car, but except in one area. Desirability. Compared to a Range Rover the new GL just looks staid and conservative and lacks the flair and wow-factor, just like almost all German cars. For my money, I would still plump for a Range Rover.

:-O They uglified the front and gave it BMW 5-Series rear lights! Oh dear.

I would trade the 'wow factor and flair' ( read bling !), in a heartbeat for reliability...I dont want to be waiting for a recovery truck with a car full of people and fishing gear on the A9 due to some spurious L-R fault.

Its a working vehicle, why do you need flair and wow....bling looks pretty stupid when its covered in gloop!!

I think theyve got the design right. Much more acomplished than the new ML which from the side looks completely odd.

I think it could do with a bit more "wow" factor inside though.

I agree with the first part, i quite like the design but i prefer the interior to the exterior which looks like it needs an aggressive AMG styling pack to create some 'wow'. Have always liked the GL, problem is justifying one over the ML, they should make it even more luxurious and tech heavy more like a 4x4 S-class as it stands its a 7 seater ML.....

I think it looks good, and is sure to be comfortable, good offroad and practical. I think the GL is a very functional and classy car and I'd have it over a blinged-up Range Rover any day of the week.

....well said Fidji, good man!

I do hope Mercedes don't make it like the new ML in that you have to have the Sport styling pack. I think both the ML and this new GL would look far better in a more sober spec.
