Relaunched Datsun hints at new car styling; due for launch in 2014

Datsun has shown the first official sketches of its new car.

Set to be revealed later this month, the five-door hatchback is reported by the maker to be aimed at a younger generation of car buyer and will cost £3500 when it goes on sale in 2014.  The car, codenamed K2,  is predominantly aimed at the Russian, Indonesian, South African and Indian markets. Its pricing will put it into direct competition with the Dacia Sandero in these regions.

However, Datsun has confirmed that it won't be selling the car in the UK.

The new Datsun will use the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine from the current Nissan Micra. Part of the suspension will also come from the Micra, mixing elements from both the current and previous generation of car. No diesel engine is planned.

The company is aiming its new model at India's middle class, working under a new banner of 'Dream, Access, Trust'. Datsun calls itself "a new brand for 21st-century risers".
