Hardly a short memory - it was 17 years ago !! ..and as you say it was a Toyota Hilux (except the badge). Can't remember which was cheaper at the time. Probably the Toyota considering how many Taros were actually sold. I think I've only ever seen one.

This should be a slightly different proposition. Although it will be built in Argentina - hardly renowned for their vehicle manufacturing.

At last! A European pickup. This is what Landrover should have been offering for the last 15 years, instead of 'moving upmarket', a short-term strategy for sure. If this doesn't sell well over here, I'm sure this and the Skoda version (which will surely come) will clean up in Eastern Europe.

VW alone knocks out as many as 500,000 vehicles in Argentina. it's spent $350m on Amarok production(it's just said it's planning to spend €2.3bn equ. for its Brazil ops)

Argentina is largely Italian(of northern regions) ethnic, not unknown for their proclivity with machinery, especially autos.

wakey, wakey, S.America/Mercosur market is growing. unlike Europe/N.America.

Makes sense for them to offer it in the UK, as there is a small but steady market for this sort of vehicle. However, the real target market is North America, as well as places like Australia, where this sort of vehicle is going to be a huge seller for VW.

Oh no, a German manufacturer offering a pick up - wake up you marketing boys in Munich !

Funny for them to miss a niche like this. Maybe they could do a fastback four-door pick-up.

had been looking for an auto vehicle for a long time and at last went with an american manufacturer instead of the german.
