Facelift aims to improve the hybrid supercar's handling, as well as comfort and emissions

Honda has refreshed the NSX supercar for 2019, with a series of tweaks to the chassis and hybrid powertrain aimed at improving handling, comfort and emissions.

The anti-roll bars at the front and rear have been stiffened, by 26% and 19% respectively, while Honda has also added stiffness to the rear hubs and control-arm toe link bushings.

Software revisions for the hybrid powertrain and adaptive dampers, as well as the power steering and stability control system are aimed at making the car easier to live with day to day by improving the softness of the ride.

Exclusive tyres - Continental SportContact 6s - were developed specifically for the NSX and are now standard fit. These are claimed to improve response and feel during acceleration, braking and cornering.

These improvements, combined with a more responsive throttle, have contributed to a lap time improvement of two seconds around the Suzuka circuit over the pre-facelift version.

To meet Euro 6d-TEMP emissions requirements, the NSX is now also fitted with a particulate filter, in addition to turbocharger tweaks. The pre-facelift NSX produces 573bhp from its 3.5-litre hybrid V6, with 476lb ft of torque and four-wheel drive helping the car to achieve 0-62mph in 2.9sec and a top speed of 191mph. There's no word on if performance is improved for the post-facelift car.

The facelifted car is marked out by subtle exterior revisions, such as black mesh in the front and rear bumpers rather than the silver mesh before, although a bright orange paint option, with available matching brake calipers on the optional carbon-ceramic brakes, will help in identifying facelifted cars from the pre-facelift NSX.

Our Verdict

Honda NSX

Honda’s super-sports icon is reborn as a ground-breaking hybrid, but is that enough to give it an edge over conventional supercars like McLaren's 570s?

The new NSX will go on sale in early 2019. 120 cars were imported in the car's first year, and 50 in the second, so the UK's allocation is likely to depend on demand.

Not unlike the McLaren in this color, shape it isn't as sharp a performer as it looks....

On the right tyres it’s a very sharp car to drive. And they’ve righted that wrong by now fitting the correct tyre as standard. It’s an underrated car.

Why is stiffening suspension always the answer?

I think it is crap. What does Autocar think?
