Currently reading: GAC claims 626-mile range for new LX electric SUV
New anode technology is claimed to endow the updated SUV with a 1000km-plus range

GAC electric vehicle brand Aion has unveiled an upgraded version of its LX SUV at the 2021 Guangzhou motor show, claiming it has a range of up to 1008km (626 miles) on the official CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Testing Cycle) procedure.

Called the LX Plus, the 2022 model adopts a new 144.4kWh lithium ion battery that uses GAC’s patented silicon sponge anode technology, first unveiled at the Shanghai motor show in April, in place of the standard LX’s 95.8kWh unit.

The new anode technology is claimed to provide a 20% reduction in battery volume and 14% reduction in weight compared with similarly sized batteries using GAC’s previous graphite anode process.

This has allowed Aion to increase the LX Plus’s battery capacity by 48.6kWh without any major re-engineering of the two-year-old SUV’s body structure.

GAC also says its new silicon electrode brings improvements in cell energy density, power density and low-temperature performance.

Aion claims an energy density of 205Wh/kg for the LX Plus's newly developed battery. This compares with 180Wh/kg for the battery used by the standard LX. Energy consumption on the CLTC procedure is rated at 4.1mkWh.

The four-wheel-drive LX Plus is powered by two electric motors with a claimed combined output of 724bhp. Its maker puts the 0-62mph time at 2.9sec and top speed at 106mph.

The latest LX also gets a new autonomous driving system that features three lidars supplied by Robosense.

The LX Plus is due to go on sale in China in early 2022. Pricing has yet to be announced.

Don't. Normally say anything when it comes to anything other than Cars etc, but, this is a Car Web page where it's supposed to be politics free, not everyone wants to here our rhetoric about any other non Car subject.

Go to you tube and type in China is coming to give yourself a moment of clarity

Looks quite nice if a little generic and anonymous.

Having said that, I am now firmly of the opinion that the world needs to stop doing business with China. They have a truly horrendous political regime. They torture and lock away a race of people they don't like (remind anyone else of a certain European country circa 1939-1945?), they crush political dissent, and now they appear to have made one of their most prominent sports stars disappear for daring to criticise a senior politician.

I thought Saudi Arabia was bad, but of the so-called "civilised" nations, China is by far the worst. It is a shame the west seems to be so obsessed with this dreadful country.

Strange, I thought this was about a car except this buggy whip reader has bought politics into the mix. I seem to remember a race called the Japanese who murdered wholesale our allies during the last great war including my great grandfather who perished at their hands during the last great war in the far east building their wretched railway lines. My point being that we still buy their cars etc, ever owned or driven a Jap car? Whats your excuse then?. By civilised I guess you must also mean good old blighty with our hidious disputes and hatred of the irish during the troubles where WE tried to crush dissent. How about the lovely opium wars? While we are also talking civilised, the USA in cahoots with us brits have been responsible for 269 armed conflicts and attempted regime changes since the second world war and thats the ones we know about.

We are in no position to judge others since that would make us, whats the word? Hypocrites, thats the word. As for the build quality of their products. Wake up. where do you think the bulk of Apple products are produced? Why are the Chinese known as the factory of the world? where is our rep for quality products gone? Why dont we have any ownership of any car industry anymore? Because we turned out crap designed cars for decades and people woke up to the fact that they dont have to buy crap anymore, that includes just about everything produced of any technical nature. As for their oppresive regime. Ever lived there, I have along with my late father and they were the most easy going people I know. The only thing that gets to you is negative shade thrown up by our media to show them in a poor light. By the way there are certain individuals who have dissapeared or have been murdered over here because they potentially would have embarrased our govenment you jingoistic dinosaur. Rubbish that you trolls lap up to form your own narrative for whatever reason. Laughable.

Watch the link about China and its cars if you dare from Sandy Munro. Sobering viewing.

@lambo58

Some interesting points you raise there.  So you lived there and they were easy going people?  Did you say what you think about the political ruling class in public, or on an internet forum?  Thought not, or you wouldn't be free to write anything on here.

Comparing second world war Japan with modern day China is ridiculous and you know it.  There is not a single person in this country would have bought anything made in Japan while we were aware or their atrocities.  By the time we started buying their goods a long time had passed and they had become a much mire civilised nation.  The same cannot be said for modern day China.  The ordinary, everyday person in the street in China may be perfectly decent people, but they are all terrified of speaking their minds and telling the truth.  You cannot say that about Japan or Britain.

"Hatred of the Irish during the troubles where WE tried to ciuah dissent".  WRONG on so many levels.  The majority of the population of Northern Ireland were, and still are, wishing to be a part of the United Kingdom.  It was a minority of people acting under the banner of Republicanism who carried out brutal murders and bombings.  I am glad you were not one of our political leaders as I suspect you would have just bowed down to the whims of the minority.  Well shame on you.

it is also ridiculous to call me a troll.  What narrative do I have?  The one where I can see what an oppressive, brutal regime they have and am sufficiently endowed with a conscience to see it and say so?  People like you are pathetic - you will keep sucking up to them, and the regime will become stronger and more powerful, while the ordinary people who want to have the sort of freedoms you take for granted cower in fear.

Now, where do I begin? Ahh nope.

Pointless, Youve never lived there, never done buisness with them and never lived under their regime. As for having a go at their govenment in public for things I disliked, why would I do that when I was happy with the way I was treated. I dont know any of our hosts there who did that either. why would they? Your average chinaman over there is just as vocal about their govenment as us brits are about our present govenment and our serial liar Johnson whose behavior apes his bombastic father. As for you and me We have no common frame of reference on which to argue. the only one thing being is the nonsence you read in the papers like the Mail or Telegraph that have an agenda all their own. Bit like you I suspect. As for it being a long time before we bought anything from the japs, I believe is was the late forties when they began exporting their goods again.  Their cars soon after in the late fifties and early sixties. Hardly a long time and certainly not for people who lost loved ones to them during the  war. Your idea of civilisation is of a very thin veneer indeed. By the way, having respect for other peoples countries is not pathetic or sucking up as you call it. Its called civilised.

martin_66 20 November 2021

@lambo58,

yeah, I don't read the Mail or the Telegraph, but, hey, apparently you know me so well.

You might well criticise Boris but you know what, I would rather have someone in charge of our country who is a liar and buffoon than someone who presides over "re-education" centres for an entire race of people, put behind barbed wire and watchtowers.  Sounds familiar?  Or is it just me that thinks of Auschwitz without the gas chambers?  Does Boris crush political dissent?  Does Boris make people disappear if they disagree with him and wipe them off the Internet?  If you really think our political leaders are worse, or in any way comparable to the regime in China, then you, sir, are a fool.

The sheer utter ignorance of people like you. I pity you.

interesting use of the word "ignorance" there.  I take it that you are saying that they don't have re-education centres in China.  If you believe that, I suggest you type in the word "Uighurs" into Google.  If you think Boris is worse than Li Jinping after that, then I think we will find out who is the ignorant one around here.

Oh, and I don't want the pity of brain-washed fools like you.

martin_66 21 November 2021
@lambo58.
On reflection, I think my work here is done. For some reason you seem determined to prove to the world your foolishness and your love of a horrific, brutal regime. It was a pleasure to help you out.
