Eurocopter EC145 is the first creation of the new Mercedes design division

The new Mercedes-Benz Style division has revealed its first creation, the Eurocopter EC145 chopper concept.

The Eurocopter EC145 was unveiled at Geneva's European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition this week. The interior design is inspired by the R-class range and includes leather seats and a 15-inch flat-screen monitor. Mercedes’ E-class and S-class models inspired the cabin’s ambient lighting systems.

A luxury yacht has also been designed by the German car maker and draws inspiration from the oak wood used in the CL.

Mercedes design chief Gorden Wagener said the firm’s "unique design expertise is appreciated throughout the world”.

"We have therefore decided to establish the Mercedes-Benz specific styling outside the automotive field too - and so far we have met with a very positive response from a great number of manufacturers in a variety of sectors," he said.

Mercedes-Benz Style will work alongside other companies to create furniture and lifestyle products, which could include a rocking chair that sways on wheels between the chair and legs rather than rails, and a birch lounge chair with a technogel cushion and LED reading lights.

It is a shame that Mercedes could not have spent a bit more time and care on the interior of my Viano. The quality of the plastics is very nasty in places. Maybe they could let these designers loose on the next Viano?
