Second of ten tweaked supercars arrives in Dubai
11 December 2009

The second £1.2 million Bertone Mantide has been sold to a buyer in Dubai.

Bertone, an Italian styling house, used the Corvette ZR1 as a base for the car, but has given it a different body, interior and shaved 100kgs from the kerb weight to add to the ’Vette’s already impressive performance.

Bertone claims that it has used both aeronautical and F1 influences to design the striking bodywork.

Wind-tunnel work has also paid dividends, as the drag has been reduced by 25 per cent over the donor car to 0.298. The Bertone Mantide also has a 30 per cent improvement in downforce over the ‘Vette.

Weight improvements have been wrought mainly through the use of lighter materials. It has carbonfibre body panels, interior trim, seats and wheels.

In total, ten Mantide's will be sold. The first buyer has not been named, although comedian Jay Leno is rumoured to be on the waiting list for a car.

Too true.

I'd think the buyers resemble a Policeman's helmet...

The back looks like the front from some angles and it reminds me of a Pokemon!!

1.2 million is allot to pay for a ZR1 in a new frock. Although the ZR1 is ok it is not one of the best handling or best supar car chassis out there and a strange choice for a European styling house?

£1.2 million isn't too much - when the money is probably being borrowed from RBS anyway ...

This is true, a car for people with too much money and not enough sense.

This is false, and shows your fundamental lack of knowledge of chassis design. The Corvettes chassis hasn’t stopped it from winning the GT Class at the 24 Hours of Lemans 6 out of the last 10 years against rivals Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari, Aston and others.

For the uninitiated.

Has somebody gone and shot all the Bertone designers. This car is absolutley horrid to look at.

And I am sorry but the road version of the Vette is sh!te at handling. Race engineers may make a better handling car but the mass produced road version is crap.

So you have a lot of seat time in a Vette, or is this based on something you read somewhere?

Here is some nice footage of this year’s 24 Hours of SPA where a single car Corvette team put the smack down on the three MC12 Vitaphone team hammering them by 11 laps, followed by the Gigawave Motorsports/ Nissan Motorsports Nissan GT-R that was 46 laps down from the Class leading Vette. Here is a nice video of the action, turn it up and enjoy…

I ain't trying to snatch your Budweiser and tread all over your hamburger mate. I like Corvettes and Camaros . Theres something about a Corvette that makes me quite juvenile but that does not make them the most accomplished sports car that there is.
