Electric concept leaks out ahead of its Frankfurt launch

Pictures of an Audi concept car have leaked out ahead of its launch at the Frankfurt motor show.

Reports from the US are claiming the car is called the R8 e-Tron and it will be based on the Audi R8 supercar. This backs up the previous teaser images we have seen of the car, which has shown what appears to be an electric Audi R8.

Changes over the standard R8 include a new front grille and front end, while new LED headlights also feature. New wheels and a new rear end also appear on the concept.

The concept is likely to be pitched as a rival to the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept and the Mercedes SLS AMG eDrive, both of which will appear at Frankfurt.

Interior shots leaked show a driver-biased centre console with two screens; one for the rear view camera and one showing a navigation map.

Audi has fuelled speculation it will launch a new electric car at Frankfurt with the launch of ww.electricityuntamed.com, a new website counting down to the show tomorrow morning. It features the line “What happened to electricity?”.

Full details of the concept are expected to be revealed by Audi tomorrow.

Re: Audi R8 e-Tron concept leaked

Never liked the R8, not special enough, over priced and like premier league football teams, talent bought in not home grown, yes i know! i know!, but couldn't they make their own engine then i could see the price of the car, i saw one the other day in a rather insiped blue it didn't make me look twice, Aston, Porsche, Ferrari even Nissan(GTR) they always get a second look!

I like it, especially the headlights. Quite understated, unlike the R8.

Another 'leak'. Whatever happened to the traditional whip-the-cover-off surprise reveal??? All the manufacturers are guilty of this. Oh well, hopefully there will be at least some surprises when the show finally opens...
