Just 300 examples will be sold, with 100 coming to the UK. That a third of the total allocation is coming to this country is testament, says Peugeot, to British affinity with the GTi name.
The 208 GTi 30th anniversary special was revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer, and celebrates 30 years since the launch of the iconic 205 GTi.
The special edition comes with a new 1.6-litre THP petrol engine, which produces 205bhp and 221lb ft of torque. The new engine, which conforms to Euro 6 emissions regulations, is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The GTi also features a Torsen differential taken from the RCZ R.
The car's suspension has also been lowered by 10mm, and the track widened both at the front and rear. Larger 18-inch alloy wheels are also fitted, while new twin chrome exhausts feature at the rear. Peugeot says the ESP and traction control systems have been re-calibrated to become less intrusive, while the steering has also been enhanced to improve feel.
Peugeot says that the 208 GTi 30th anniversary edition can reach 62mph in 6.5 seconds, while acceleration between 50 and 70mph is covered in 6.0 seconds. Its CO2 emissions are rated at 125g/km.
Other modifications to the model include the adoption of the same sharp cosmetic dividing line as the 308 R and Exalt concept cars, while customers can also specify a dual-material livery. Inside, new floor mats are fitted alongside bucket seats trimmed with Alcantara and finished with red stitching. A numbered plaque also denotes each car.
First deliveries of the new model are expected in November. Its price means the limited-edition model costs over £3000 more than a regular 208 GTi.
