Former F1 champion powers up the Goodwood hill in rebuilt racer

Nelson Piquet has raced a rebuilt version of his 1983 F1 championship-winning Brabham BT52 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The car was rebuilt by BMW engineers using modern F1 technology, and was driven by Piquet at the festival.

Alongside the heritage racer BMW was also showing off some of its latest models, including the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé, which had its UK debut at the event. The V12-engined concept is a one-off design study with 544bhp and 550 lb/ft of torque.

Also on display is the new M6 Gran Coupé. At £94,180 the V8-powered coupé, which develops 552bhp and can get from 0-62mph in 4.2sec, is set to become the new flagship for BMW's M brand.

Other M models including the updated BMW M5 saloon, M6 Convertible and M135i also feature on the stand.

Back on the hill, and BMW's 464bhp M1 Procar was showing off to the crowds alongside the V12 LMR, the 572bhp 12-cylinder racer which won Le Mans in 1999. It was driven up the hill by former F1 driver Marc Surer and UK racer Steve Soper.

BMW's Mini brand is present at the festival, with its own stand celebrating the 'Best of British'. A Mini-themed dodgem circuit will help entice visitors to the marque's stand.
