Brazilian resigns to stay alongside Alonso
9 June 2010

Felipe Massa has signed to Ferrari until at least the 2012 season.

Massa's contract had been due to expire at the end of this year. He has been at Ferrari since 2001.

"I am happy to be given the opportunity to drive for Ferrari for a further two seasons," said Massa.

"Throughout my entire Formula 1 career, I have always raced with an engine made in Maranello and it is a matter of pride for me to be able to continue working with a team that I regard as a second family."

Massa has competed in 69 grands prix for Ferrari, having won 11 races, 30 podiums and 15 pole positions.

So much for the 'dream team' of Alonso and Vettel.

They may yet buy him out of his contract, as they did with Raikonnen, although to be honest I doubt that Alonso would be willing to partner with Vettel.

Why do u think Vettel would move why go to a worse team than the one he is with he is with the nest team at the mo if I were him I would not be wanting to change Ferrari have a lot off work to do they are going backwards at the mo maybe they will do better in Canada . I don,t think Massa would drive for any other team now so Ferrari may work with what they have and who they have .

1. Because Ferrari is Ferrari and everybody wants to drive for them.
2. Because Ferrari probably have better long-term prospects than Redbull - same reason why Button moved from Brawn (remember them??) to McLaren.

i think Mercedes is a long term team though. its just this year they didnt have much input for the car. they have the money now to be as good as any other team.

Exactly. There are not many drivers in the modern era that have moved other than financial reasons - same as in Football, and probably other highly paid sports. Can't blame them though - relatively short earning span, maximise earnings is surely a sensible thing.

To live is to drive

Wonder if they'll get Kimi back for next year too....
