New Audi RS4 Avant video review

Review 27 June 2012

The new Audi RS4 has a lot to live up to. Its predecessor is still vaunted as one of the best RS cars ever, and in recent times the products from Audi's performance arm have been hit-and-miss. Does the new 4.2-litre V8 performance estate represent a new high?

Seems like a return to form for Audi on an RS model, which is pleasing, its also good to hear an autocar reveiw thats not hating on an audi

Yes, pity really, because they could have pushed the boat out a bit further.

Autocar Review - A bit over subjective

Having the greatest respect for Andrew Frankel.

These Autocar Video reviews are a great way for the reader & prospective purchaser to evaluate whether it is worth a trip down to ones local showroom for a test drive.

Having owned a number of Audi's during my motoring life, and driven several more - including RS models, most of us understand that the Audi mainstream vehicle is a compromise between solidity, practicality and performance & consistently poor steering feedback.

In my opinion (humble), originally from a minority demographic (a farmer - who went to the city as a consultant to Central Banks), the Audi RS4 and Mercedes C63 Estate or Saloon models are unlikely to appear on many of the same shortlists. Farmers would probably choose the Audi over the Mercedes.  City Bankers might well prefer the C63

Have owned Mercedes / BMW & Audi vehicles as well as more exotics (ACs & Lancia's),

each brand would seem to be slanted towards a different customer set & within each customer set, the ageing process affects decision making.

I would be unlikely to purchase the same vehicle today as I did 5 yrs ago or even 45 yrs ago.

The Audi RS4 has potentially a longer period of appeal than most vehicles.  I could imagine shelling out for an RS4 in my 20s (with help of a small inheritance). & in my 30s & 40s & 50s & 60s.

Not many cars have such a wide potential appeal across age bands, and certainly not the Mercedes C63.
