Mazda's facelifted 3 features the firm's SkyActiv technology and a fresh face

The facelifted Mazda 3 has made its official debut at the New York motor show.

Revisions to the car include the adoption – for the first time - of the firm’s SkyActiv petrol engines, SkyActiv manual and automatic six-speed gearboxes and updates to the 3’s interior and exterior styling, for a bolder and more functional look.

On the outside, the ‘3 sports a new grille, revised bumper and rounded fog lights – previously “horizontally-wide.”

The new 2.0-litre SkyActive petrol engine produces 153bhp at 6000rpm and 148lb ft of torque at 4100rpm, compared with the previous version’s 148bhp at 6500rpm and 135lb ft of torque at 4100rpm. Fuel efficiency has also been improved by 20 per cent over the older unit, according to Mazda.

The revised SkyActive manual gearbox “achieves a shift that is sporty,” an improved steering response and improved front and rear damping for better ride quality.
