We met Changan’s Global Design Director in Turin before driving across the Alps to see its UK R&D facility

The UK’s EV market is as fiercely competitive as it’s ever been, and that’s attracted plenty of new brands who are looking for a slice of the action. Changan is one such brand. Although, it’s not new as such. While the Changan name might be unfamiliar to some, the Chinese brand has actually been building cars for almost 45 years, with more than 30 million global sales. But here’s the twist. Changan has a European design centre in Turin. It’s got an R&D facility right here in the UK, too. So it’s not your run-of-the-mill newcomer.

So, to find out how serious Changan is about its European commitment, we took a little trip to Italy to speak with Changan's global design director, Bertrand Bach. Then, to add a little practical to the theory, we hopped behind the wheel of a Changan Deepal S07 to embark on an epic 900-mile drive across the Alps. Our destination? Changan’s Birmingham-based Research and Development facility, to find out exactly what Changan does to its cars to ensure they’re suited to UK roads.

Watch the full video to see the Changan Deepal S07 in action and learn a little more about the brand's approach to making UK-centric vehicles.
