Currently reading: Shelby powers Cobra (again)

Just two months after the Frimley factory closed, AC Cars are back in production in the UK thanks to investment from legendary racer and tuner Carroll Shelby.

AC Cars has agreed to supply 50 aluminium bodies and steel chassis per year to Shelby Automobiles in the USA, where they will be completed at Shelby’s Las Vegas plant.

Cars will be badged as Shelby AC Cobras, and will be available with a variety of V8 engines – including Shelby’s own 400bhp-plus 427 cu in (7.0-litre) unit. Prices will start at around $80,000 (£56,000).

Meanwhile, the opening of AC’s new factory in Malta, which will build composite-bodied AC Aces to be sold in the US, has been delayed until early next year.
