Currently reading: Clutchless Lambos due in May

Sant'Agata should have its first paddleshift-equipped Murciélagos ready for UK delivery in May, following the model's launch at last year's Frankfurt show.

Lamborghini's e-gear is an electro-hydraulic system governed by the car's ECU, and replaces the standard manual shift H-pattern gearbox, and the car's clutch pedal.

Bespoke software has been developed for the applictation of the system in the company's flagship supercar. E-gear drivers will change ratios using column-mounted paddles; Lamborghini claim these changes, 'optimised for driving conditions and style', are better than is achievable by a good driver using a manual transmission. The system will 'double clutch' on the downshift when axle speed necessitates, prevents downshifting when doing so would cause engine overspeed, and automatically 'kicks down' when rpm falls below acceptable thresholds.

Sole UK dealer Lamborghini London predicts that e-gear-equipped Murciélagos will account for half of future orders. The price of the new specification is as yet unconfirmed.
