Mike Newman beats his own World Blind Land Speed Record in a BMW M5

Driving in aid of the charity Vision 2020: The Right to Sight, blind driver Mike Newman smashed his own Blind World Land Speed Record on October 11 with a two-way average speed over the measured mile of 167.32mph.

The new marker raises the bar by over 20mph, beating the 144.7mph record Newman set two years ago in a Jaguar at Elvington Airfield. Newman's new record, again set at Elvington, was conducted solo in a deristricted BMW M5, which reached a peak speed of 178.5mph during the runs.
