This is the Laguna GT; the car that company bosses described as 'Renault's Quattro.'Autocar reported on the Laguna GT and six other new models earlier this week, and these are the first official pictures to be released. The Laguna GT is equipped with Renault's new Active Drive four-wheel steer system, which allows the rear wheels to move both in parallel and in opposition to the direction of the front wheels.Renault says the system is extremely effective, delivering ‘enhanced manoeuvrability, sharpened dynamic response and unmatched steering precision’. It’s also claimed that the system improves active safety, particularly under braking and during high-speed avoidance manoeuvres. The GT will come in both hatch and estate forms, and has a choice of either a 205bhp 2.0-litre turbo engine or a 180bhp 2.0 dCi turbodiesel. Inside it gets sports seats, leather and alcantara upholstery, drilled aluminium pedals and 18in wheels. You won't have to wait long to find out if Renault's new four-wheel steer system really does perform as well as its creators claim. The car will be at Geneva in March, and goes on sale in April, so keep watching Autocar.co.uk for the official verdict.
