BMW tuner Alpina has launched a saloon version of its high-performance D3 diesel.
Developed from the D3 Coupe, the four-door variant is powered by a tuned version of the 2.0-litre twin-turbodiesel taken from the 123d.
Alpina says that its version of the motor produces 211bhp and 332lb ft of torque (the same figures as in the D3 Coupe). As a result, the D3 saloon sprints to 62mph in 6.9sec and hits a top speed of 152mph.
Efficiency is also improved; the Alpina averages 52.3mpg and emits 143g/km of CO2.
Alpina has also announced that it will fit BMW's performance steering wheel to all saloon and touring models. The wheel has integral gearshift indicators and a digital display that reads information including quarter-mile times, g-forces and the oil and water temperatures.
The D3 saloon costs £29,950 for the six-speed manual version and £31,585 for the six-speed automatic model.
