Environmental concerns prompt order for eco cars

The British army has placed an order for 50 Toyota Priuses in order to cut carbon monoxide emissions - but, don't panic, they won't be used in the front line.

The new cars will be used in the army’s so-called white fleet, which is made up of vehicles for non-operational purposes.

The fleet is made up of 3000 cars, and it is hoped the addition of the Priuses will take the average fleet emissions below 130g/km of CO2. If the cars are popular, it is expected the army will order a further 50 cars from Toyota.

Other green motoring initiatives the army is undertaking to reduce emissions include swapping Vauxhall Vectras for Astras.
