Hydrogen-powered SX4 at Tokyo

Suzuki has unveiled a hydrogen fuel-cell powered version of its SX4 at the Tokyo motor show.

The SX4-FCV uses an 80kW hydrogen fuel cell supplied by General Motors. It is mated to a Suzuki-designed hydrogen storage tank that compresses the gas at 10,000psi.

A lightweight capacitor takes the place of a battery pack and it smooths out the flow of electrons to the 68kW electric motor. This also helps with regenerative braking.

Road testing is currently underway of the SX4-FCV in Japan, but no production details have been revealed.

Suzuki also displays a hydrogen-powered Burgman scooter and a similarly powered mobility scooter at the Tokyo motor show.
