British GM executive temporarily in charge of Opel and Vauxhall

General Motors executive Nick Reilly is to take over responsibility for Opel and Vauxhall while the company searches for a new CEO, the car maker has announced.

Reilly, 59, is a former managing director of Vauxhall and current chief of GM’s international operations.

He takes over from Carl-Peter Forster after the collapse of a deal to sell GM’s European operations to Magna.

British-born Reilly will continue to head GM’s international operations but he will temporarily look after Opel and Vauxhall.

"With his deep experience with the Opel and Vauxhall brands, Nick is well suited to lead this transition and to work toward the earliest possible normalization of the business," GM CEO Fritz Henderson said in a statement.
