Caterham cars has announced plans to ramp up capacity at its Dartford factory for the foreseeable future in response to demand.
Caterham says the move is a reaction to increased demand over the past 12 months, particularly from overseas. It now aims to build 500 cars a year - or ten a week, and cut its current four week waiting list.
In the UK, the Roadsport 175 and the more track-focused Superlight R300, remain the most popular models, just ahead of the entry-level Ford Sigma-powered Roadsport 125.
“The export market has certainly been boosted by the exchange rate but more decisively by our success in achieving European Type Approval last year and the launch of the Ford Duratec powered Roadsport 175," said Ansar Ali, managing director of Caterham Cars. “Adding to our capacity merely underlines our position in the market.”

It's great to hear we have a thriving automotive industry that does not rely so much on huge cost cutting exercises to keep going rather build small numbers at high value and focusing on niche markets. Not only are they in business they are growing business'! fantastic given the recent economic uncertainty.
