Japanese car maker pays £11m fine, but denies any wrong-doing

Toyota has paid its $16.4 million (£11.4m) fine for failing to inform US regulators about defective accelerator pedals on its cars quickly enough.

Toyota paid the fine, which is the maximum allowed under US car-related safety regulations, but stressed that its actions do not mean it is admitting any wrong-doing regarding the recall.

Toyota officials also face a congressional committee hearing later this week, and the company is under investigation for a separate safety issue regarding whether certain typres of floor mats could jam accelerators in some of its vehicles.
