Parent company Honda says Audi A3 rival should tempt new premium car buyers
4 April 2012

The production version of the Acura ILX has been revealed at the New York motor show, with its maker pricing it to attract new premium brand buyers and tempt people away from established brands such as Audi and BMW.

Engine choices for the Audi A3 rival are 2.0 and 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engines, and a 1.5-litre hybrid, which is the first from the company.

Acura has set sales targets of 40,000 cars a year for the Honda Civic based car.

Takanobu Ito, Honda's president and CEO, has previously confirmed Acura will expand into some growth markets, such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Ukraine from the end of 2013.

However, he has reiterated that there are no plans to expand the brand into Europe.

So is this our next Accord or will we have to deal with the new US Accord?

Maybe they will bring this to Europe as the Civic Saloon and Hybrid instead of the awful US civic

It is Civic based, so presumably smaller than our Accord. Fully expect Honda to keep the two versions of the Accord going for the time being as the US one is not suitable for either the Euro or Japanese markets (although I saw quite a few in China recently). However our Accord may be dropped from the US market (where it's sold as the Acura TSX).

" Our " Accord sells less than 30k units a year, on a good year. It sold 12k last year. We're not getting a Euro only Accord.
