The all-new Peugeot 407 Coupé will be the first of the company’s UK models to take its new 2.7-litre V6 diesel. The engine was developed as a joint venture between Ford and PSA Peugeot-Citroën, and is already used in the Jaguar S-type (right) and new Land Rover Discovery. The big 206bhp diesel will appear in the Coupé from early 2006 as a launch engine, before filtering across to the 407 saloon and SW. UK bosses have decided against adding the unit to the small-selling 607 in the UK, although it will be used in the exec barge in mainland Europe. There are currently no plans to offer the V6 diesel in the 807 MPV, the only other logical application for the engine.

The new Coupé, shown here in our artist’s impression (above), is being designed in-house, unlike the sexy 406 Coupé which was styled by Pininfarina. It will be officially revealed in March, and is said to share little with the Silhouette concept car shown at the 2004 Geneva show.
