New Audi Ultra range offers improved economy; Mercedes S-class engine line-up expanded; Vauxhall Astra gets new 76.3mpg diesel

Audi has revealed a new range of Ultra models that focus on efficiency and power, including an Audi A6 with 187bhp and 64.2mpg. The A6 2.0 TDI Ultra, priced from £32,515, has CO2 emissions of just 114g/km of CO2. Ultra A4s, A5 coupés and A5 Sportbacks will follow.

The Vauxhall Astra is the latest model to get the company's new 1.6-litre diesel engine It will be offered in 108bhp and 134bhp outputs, capable of averaging 76.3mpg and 72.4mpg respectively. CO2 emissions are as low as 97g/km. The new engine is coupled to a six-speed manual with an improved shift quality.

Mercedes has expanded its Mercedes-Benz S-Class range with three new powertrains - a 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel-electric hybrid and two V12s. The new £72,260 S300 Bluetec Hybrid L AMG Line averages 61.4mpg and emits 120g/km of CO2. The new twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12s comprise the £139,960, 523bhp S600 L AMG Line and the £179,960, 621bhp S65 AMG L.

Will Audi manage...

...to get the indicators to work on this one? They hardly ever seem to work on any of their other models, as they suddenly lurch off in a different, often random, direction....
