Rumours of production delays dismissed

Speculation that the Jaguar XJ launch has been delayed has been dismissed by the company.

The first cars are due to be delivered in April, but rumours had suggested that production delays would push this date back.

These rumours were further fuelled yesterday when Jaguar Land Rover boss David Smith left his post.

However, a spokesman told autocar.co.uk: "I can absolutely assure you we are on schedule with the Jaguar XJ. We are about to start shipping the cars out to our overseas markets, and the cars will be in the dealerships as planned."

Could be - then again leaving the better half to watch Corrie rather than delivering another earbashing might be no bad thing.

(Couldn't get the Quote to work!)

CambsBill: I've seen the split screen working in the showroom and the driver has to lean a long way over the transmission tunnel to see the moving image. Sound goes through headphones, which it would already be illegal for a driver to wear. That makes it no more distracting that the stereo or a passengers mp3 player.

But I was looking for a reply describing a general design style, rather than a general emotive design descrepancy. Should the design been more to what it was, more like a BMW, more like a Mercedes Benz?

If it helps, I like the direction that BMW is taking now that they are smoothing out the Bangle bungles. That makes me seem rather conservative, but my motoring c.v. includes two Beach Buggys in the dim and distant... Don't know if I should have admitted that!
