Configurator launched showing colour, trim and kit options
1 April 2010

A configurator for the McLaren MP4-12C supercar has been launched.

Choices include 17 different exterior paint colours, including McLaren orange. Buyers can also specify where a variety of Alcantara, leather and carbon trims are used inside the cabin.

Performance upgrades include a lightweight sports exhaust system, carbon ceramic brake discs, polished-finish calipers and two different lightweight forged wheel options. Mirror casings, engine bay panels and engine covers are all available in carbonfibre.

It has also been confirmed the 12C has a Meridian two-channel, four-speaker sound system, 40GB hard drive with media player, AM/FM radio, electronic user manual and Bluetooth telephony. USB, PDMI and audio jack ports allow media player connection, with support for Apple iPod and Microsoft Zune.

This can be upgraded with the McLaren-developed iris, which allows use of voice control to access a navigation system while driving, increases hard drive capacity to 80GB and allows users to access pictures and emails. WLAN connectivity a;sp allows owners to remotely transfer music and other data files from a laptop or PC when parked within range

The team's F1 drivers Jenson button and lewis Hamilton have already used the system to prepare their upcoming company cars.

I can't configure mine! It won't let me!

I was looking forward to clicking on that sexy 80GB Hi-Fi tick-box and you'd go through the whole thing with that ticked and then at the end, it'd all drop down and it'd be there. I don't know what'd happen, it won't let me in, but thinking about it gave me the fucking horn, frankly.

I wish McLaren hadn't called it 'Iris', though. My Auntie Iris is called 'Iris' and you don't want to be driving around with your Auntie Iris full up with 80GBs of your favourite Lonny Donegan records and Chintzy Strydode videos, do you? Especially not for £227,000.50.

Ferrari can't fit such a huge Hi-Fi into their dashboards, and so I'm not getting one now. Sod that, I'm not stupid.

I don't know what a Bluetooth is, but if it's one of those things that lets you put that thing on your earhole, I want one! They're cool, I like those.

Oow! I've just been let in the McLaren design portal and I'm frightened. It's making a funny noise and when I click on my car what I'm going to have: it goes "boopy-boopy!" and when I tried to make mine gone Speckled Kidney colour, it went "Woo-OO-woo-OOB!" McLaren must think I'm mad! I ain't using that!

I posted in here yesterday and it's now gone. I don't believe I said anything derogatory. Funny.

The more I look at the car, the more I like it. It's like a semi skimmed version of the F1.

Nothing personal, but why did you say that?
