Chevy chases 911 with 'Supervette'

Chevrolet has nearly completed work on its lightweight track-focused Corvette, the next Z06.Chevy’s thin disguise does little to conceal the prototype’s reshaped front valance and enlarged bumper air intake — shown here in our scoop shot.It looks like it will get a carbonfibre roof, too, shaving valuable kilos off the car’s kerbweight. Meanwhile, under the bonnet, the pared-down super Vette is rumoured to be packing a heavily reworked version of the 6.0-litre LS2 aluminium V8, producing close to 500bhp — enough to concern Porsche’s forthcoming new 911 Turbo. The Z06 could come to the UK early as 2006.
