Latest news on the 178bhp pocket rocket, which will compete in racing events next year

Abarth has released more details about its new Fiat 500-based rally car.

Labelled as the 500 R3T, it will be homologated in a class of the same name. This category is for forced induction cars of up to 1600cc, and is designed for drivers running on a tight budget. There will also be a one-make rally series for the 500 in 2010.

The 1.4-litre engine is fitted with a Garrett GT 1446 turbo, enabling it to deliver 180bhp to the six-speed sequential gearbox. The suspension has been set up to be adjustable for different surfaces, whilst the Brembo brakes will have adjustable front/rear bias and the handbrake will be, in true rally style, hydraulic. The car will weigh a minimum of 1080kg.

Inside, the car has a full FIA-spec rally interior, with an extensive roll cage and race seats, accompanied by six point safety harnesses and other safety equipment.

The calendar for the rally series will be released later this year.

is it a rally car or a race car. with those spotlights i assume its a rally car ! 17 inch wheels are a silly size for such a small car. but what do i know. i think there will be special editions fiat 500 every 6 months. www.KOOOLcr.com
