Prodrive shows off the car that will bring world rally champion out of retirement

Prodrive has revealed the Subaru Impreza WRC that Marcus Gronholm will drive on the Rally of Portugal.

The Prodrive Impreza WRC2008 bears allegiance to the Portuguese Tourist Board, which has helped fund the deal for the world rally champion's return to competition after 16 months in retirement.

However, sources suggest Prodrive is viewing the outing as far more than a funded drive, and is optimistic that Gronholm will be able to show it car's true pace.

Underlining how seriously the team is taking the event, Gronholm will drive the car in Wales this week before undertaking a furtehr two-day test in spain next week.

Prodrive technical director, David Lapworth, said: "We have only been able to make minor changes to the car because of homologation restrictions, with the most significant difference being the Ohlins dampers.

“In a perfect world, Marcus would have had far more time behind the wheel, however, with his years of experience, I am absolutely confident he will very quickly find a rhythm in the Impreza."
