Currently reading: Radical at the 'Ring

Radical has officially launched its 383bhp SR8 (right), and plans to make it the first road car to lap Germany’s Nurburgring in under seven minutes. Until recently, the Peterborough-based outfit held the production lap record, which stood at 7 minutes 19 seconds set by touring car ace Phil Bennett in the firm’s SR3. Last October, however, that record fell to a privately-owned Donkervoort two-seater – but only by a second.

‘We’ve studied the video of Phil’s lap in the SR3,’ said Radical director Mick Hyde. ‘It was a great lap, but it wasn’t perfect.’

‘The SR8 will go faster,’ he went on. ‘With the right man at the wheel, we’re confident that seven minutes is breakable.’
