518bhp load lugger launched at Frankfurt

This is the Mercedes E63 AMG estate, which has been launched at the Frankfurt motor show.

Styling changes over the regular estate, which was also launched at Frankfurt, include a a new front bumper, front air intakes, a new rear diffuser and four-pipe exhaust system. LED lights also feature.

Power comes from the 6.3-litre V8 engine, which puts out 518bhp and 464lb ft of torque. It is mated to Mercedes’ new seven-speed Speedshift MCT auto’ ‘box, which helps it get from 0-62mph in 4.6secs. Fuel consumption is a claimed 22.1mpg on the combined cycle.

Other features include a new AMG-developed sports suspension kit, which automatically adjust the damping to suit driving conditions. The front-axle has been strengthened, while ceramic-composite brakes are offered as an option.

Like the standard E-Class Estate, the E63 AMG’s boot capcity is 1950 litres. An automatic tailgate also features.

It is expected to go on sale in February 2010, with prices set to be announced nearer the launch.
