Radical gullwing sports car revealed showing a real-life version of a virtual concept for Gran Turismo 6
17 November 2013

The Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo, a spectacular new gullwinged sports car concept created by its in-house design team for inclusion in Sony’s new PlayStation 3 game Gran Turismo 6, has been revealed.

The brawny-looking gullwing coupé was unveiled as a model at the opening of Mercedes-Benz’s new R&D centre in Sunnyvale, California ahead of the Los Angeles motor show.

Despite the reveal of the model in 1:1 scale, the two-seater is destined to remain a feature of the virtual world as the first in a series of Vision Gran Turismo virtual concepts.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic 300 SL, Mercedes’ designers have given their latest concept exaggerated proportions, including a long probing nose and a cabin sited well back within the wheelbase to give an instantly aggressive appearance.

The AMG Vision Gran Turismo runs a front-mounted, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine of unspecified size developing 577bhp together with 590lb ft of torque. With a virtual aluminium spaceframe body and weighing 1385kg, it has a power-to-weight ratio of 417bhp per tonne.

Mercedes-Benz describes this figure as being “unrivalled in the super sports car segment and one that guarantees exceptionally dynamic performance”.

It looks a bit like a Marcos LM600

.. actually quiet like this mish mash of designs ,. there is Maserati GT in the front, Posche 911 in the back and some Marcos too in musclarity.. they could if they wanted produce this...as a really high end one off limited edition bespoke model..far more character than a Veyron to me..

...a millionaire just to buy this car. Mercedes: you need to make this. The only change should be to the wheels; they need to be toned down slightly. Do it now!

Yes, just build it. Love the 20R24 wheels.

December the 6th is the important date. GT6

A German car with style and emotion, wow!! This looks sensational, this is what the SLS should have looked like instead of sporting its current upright, 3-box, 2dr saloon styling.

If I was designing a car solely to exist in the virtual world of gaming, it would have a million horse power and weigh peanuts. Why is this thing so heavy and weedy?

This doesn't feel that Mercedes to me but that doesnt mean to say that's bad. It looks generally ok. It does feel a bit fat though. The old mercs piloted by mr Moss were perfectly proportioned, were lean but retained surface refinement as well as beautiful details. I'm glad this concept isn't a complete retro through back but I think it could have been more authentic while being more progressive. This is better than most modern mercs though. The new mercs are generally over the top. Like a love child of Darth Vador and a blue whale - that's an odd mix isn't it?! Inside the new mercs are still a bit fishy, how bad is the new S-class?! Can't believe Mercedes is still a popular brand. Just thought this concept nearly looks like it has been designed by McLaren?!!! The rear details remind of the mp4 whatever thingy me jig... And it's curvy...

After having looked at the pics again especially from the rear this would have made a better Bugatti. It's got all the Bugatti fullness and extravagance. Quick GT guys do a face lift and rebrand it...
