The base model 1.4-litre ES starts at £16,575 – more than £500 less than the current entry-level Astra Estate. That's also a premium over the five-door hatch of £995.

Standard equipment includes air conditioning, curtain airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Electronic Parking Brake, an aux-in socket and Active Safety Front Head Restraints. The top of the range 2.0-litre SRI automatic will cost £23,900.

Six engines will be available from launch, with a low-CO2, 1.3-litre turbodiesel with stop/start available soon afterwards.

A 1.4i Turbo developing 138bhp has combined economy of 45.6mpg and CO2 emissions of 145g/km.

The most powerful engine in the range, the 2.0 CDTi with 158bhp, will have a Combined economy of 55.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 134g/km.

The Sports Tourer will have a rear boot space of 500 litres (with rear seats up), 30-litres more than the hatchback.

The new Astra range has already sold more than 28,000 units in the UK and Vauxhall expects the Sports Tourer to account for approximately 10 per cent of all future sales.

Yes thats for a base model 1.4 petrol which is no use to a person considering this type of vehicle.

You then look at the prices and realise that for a diesel SE model (middle of the range) its a whopping £23,000

This is probably more realistic in terms of what potential drivers might choose.

Distinctly average Vauxhall! Well done on making this car without a doubt the same as every other Korean/Eurobox estate/ "sports tourer" out there.

What happened to design?

I was just thinking it looks very Korean, to be fair that is an insult to Korean car design right now.
