Fastest front-wheel-drive Vauxhall ever gets over 300bhp from 2.0-litre turbo engine and can reach 60mph in 5.9sec, coming to the UK in 2015

The Vauxhall Astra VXR Exteme, which received its world debut at the Geneva motor show last week, has been shown in an official video from twin brand Opel.

Already confirmed as coming to the UK in low volumes from next year, the Astra VXR Exteme is the most powerful front-wheel drive car in Vauxhall's history.

The VXR Exteme develops "over 300bhp" from its 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine. The powerplant, which also features variable cam phasing, drives through a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

By comparison, Standard VXRs produce 276bhp at 5300rpm and 295lb ft at 2400-4800rpm, allowing for 0-60mph in 5.9sec and a top speed of 155mph.

Vauxhall says the concept is 100kg lighter than the standard Astra VXR, in part thanks to the use of aluminium in place of steel, and the use of carbonfibre in the roof, bonnet, rear wing, diffuser, front spoiler, suspension cross-brace, rear wheelhouse vents and the wheels themselves.

The front wings are pressed from aluminium instead of steel and weigh just 0.8kg each, instead of 2.2kg for the standard VXR's steel wings, while the carbonfibre roof weighs just 2.6kg compared with 9.3kg for the standard VXR's steel roof.

Vauxhall claims that the weight saving measures and the car's lowered centre of gravity "greatly improve agility and overall handling".

The Extreme also gets 370mm discs and six-piston Brembo calipers on the front wheels and specially developed "ultra-high-performance" 245/35 19in tyres. Inside, Recaro seats and six-point safety belts feature, while a roll cage sits in place of the rear seats.

While official pricing has yet to be revealed, a significant premium over the £27,260 asked for the standard Astra VXR is expected.

Can't You Go Faster...?

Nice looking car car, but bearing in mind it's a performance car, why isn't it being driven faster..? The driver went through almost all of the gears, and the speedo wasn't even on 50....!!!!!!!

The Extreme

For a brief moment (0:24) I thought it was Tiff Needell only 30 years ago. Jeremy Clarkson will perhaps like this car's flamboyant styling.

Ho hum..........

Maybe it's the color, but,it looks like a badly body kitted Astra, plus, it wasn't exactly being driven hard, why?,plus inside it didn't look vastly different inside from a mid spec Astra, i hope GM give us a proper bonkers Astra, not this tame effort.
