Famous Togliatti plant to build rebadged Renault Logans as Nissans

A Nissan-badged Logan saloon will be made at Lada's famous Togliatti plant - the first tangible evidence of Renault's recent takeover of Lada.

The Togliatti plant was once seen as a bastion of communist-era production, and more recently hit the headlines when Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin visited the plant at the height of owner Avtovaz's recent financial crisis.

At the time, Putin made headlines by backing the plant's management for not cutting jobs despite the financial problems faced by the company, and then offered around £800m in loans, cash and guarantees to support the company.

He also subsequently bought an AvtoVAZ Niva SUV to show his support for the company.

Renault own Nissan,Lada and Dacia - Lada need new product quickly, Dacia have a proven "tough and cheap" car and Nissan have the most established name in Russia - makes perfect sense.

A Romanian car, built by Russians and sold as a Nissan. Are the japs that desperate for market share that they will stick their badge on anything. With Nissan trying to build its global image with cars like the GTR and 370z, plus launching Infiniti which everyone knows means posh Nissan, surely this is bad move?
