£3000 off a new Astra or Corsa when trading in a car more than seven years old
5 February 2010

Vauxhall has launched a new ‘swappage’ scheme, which offers an extra £1000 discount over the government’s own scrappage scheme.

Owners of cars more than seven years old can get a £3000 discount off a new three-door or five-door Astra and most new Corsa models.

To qualify for the scheme, the trade-in car must have tax, insurance and a valid MOT. There is no upper age limit for cars.

Yesterday the government announced it will extend the scrappage scheme until the end of March to ensure as much as possible of the £400 million set aside for the scheme is spent.

The Vauxhall scheme starts today and runs until the end of March.

Is this perhaps acceptance from Vauxhall that they might have overpriced the Astra? Wouldnt it be easier to knock £3,000 off them all, and just give the fleets a smaller discount? (who still get more than £3,000 off i bet)

I think this swappage refers to the previous gen Astra because the article mentions the 3 door aswell as the 5 door. I'm assuming Vx still have plenty left on the forecourts and are trying to flog them post-haste.

Good point. Well in that case they will need to knock a lot more than £3,000 off

A quick Google search reveals that on buyacar.co.uk discounts of between £3,715 and £5,334 are avaialble on 'Cooking spec' 1.4/1.6 new shape Astras, and this is excluding scrappage. Based on that, on a just launched car, I think this Vauxhall 'swappage' scheme is a bit of a joke!

well interestingly Evans Halshaw Milton Keynes offered me a brand new factory order Astra 1.6SXI for £12500 which is a wopping discount

Also all the old style astras on forecourts are pre-reg models. WE decided to get a pre reg model and paid 10995 for a 1.6 Active Plus which is also a massive discount in the 18500 original list price

maybe if there offering just the 3000 swappage there tyring to cut the ammount there discouting?

putting astras aside £3k off a new corsa is welcome.

I went into my local Vauxhall dealer today and was pleased to see that the Vauxhall swappage deal is on the new Astra.

I couldn't take advantage of the government scrappage programme as I hadn't owned my car for 12 months, that wasn't an issue under the Vauxhall Swappage offer. I got a great deal.

My local Vauxhall dealer is advertising nearly £3500 off new shape Astra Exclusive models (not a scrappage deal), which I was surprised to see on such a new model

I'm not surprised, it was grossly overpriced from the word go, they can't expect to sell any when a BMW 1-Series or Audi A3 Sportback can be had for less. Just goes to show what a joke the list prices are.

I just checked the list prices myself, and yes they are a joke. £3k even off a new corsa is not enough. Nearly £16k for a 1.4 5 door corsa without any extras... unbelievable.

price should be about £10k list.
