Ford posted a massive $8.2 billion (£5.9bn) loss last year, the result of a massive writedown due to an overhaul of its struggling EV business – and has dipped below BYD in terms of sales.
The American company recorded total wholesale volumes of 4,394,000 vehicles globally in 2025, compared with around 4.6 million for its Chinese rival.

Ford have lost the plot.
Discontinuing best sellers and sticking Ford badges on VW's.
Ford are totally responsible for their own demise.
Ford is treading water...but for the life of me I cannot understand why someone would want to own a Chinese car. The VAST majority of cars from all makers are completely souless, but the Chinese ones are on another level of souless, never mind if the brakes work!
For years we have been driven by brand snobbery, in the 80's a Granada Ghia was an aspirational object. The "Germans" have dominated all sectors in the intervening years since then.
All of a sudden, the Chinese arrive. Snobbery is out of the window, value for money is in.
For far too long "user-choosers" have been piling in to PCP contracts, getting a flash, German badge on the driveway smugly knowing it has a greater perceived value in the three year run up to the first MOT and subsequent disposal before the troubles kick in.
We are witnessing the progression of a car being the object of desire to one of a white goods commodity, no different to your tumble-dryer or fridge.
Sadly, as a self-confessed tinkerer, we are also witnessing the extinsion of the DIY car maintenance brigade. Sad times.
