How's this for a Remix? Honda's swoopy new concept – the Remix - is making big hints about the look of the next CR-X.
The compact two door coupe is the work of the Japanese car maker’s Californian design studio and points the way forward for what lead designer Ben Davidson calls as an ‘affordable, lightweight and fun to drive car’.
While denying it is a blueprint for any future production car from Honda, the 27-year-old American admits various elements of the two-seat Remix’s taut exterior and three-door hatchback layout may find their way onto the next CR-X, a model which continues to have a big following in North America despite not being on sale since 1997.
Key elements include a wraparound windscreen that lends the new Honda a jet-fighter look not dissimilar to that on the Saab AeroX concept, and a bulbous rear hatch.
Davidson says the Remix is not based on any current Honda platform, but hints a production version of the new car would likely sit on either a derivative of the Civic’s front-wheel-drive underpinnings or those of the Jazz.
Power would come from a transversely mounted four-cylinder engine driving through a six-speed manual box – all of which points to the concept eventually entering production before the end of the decade. We've even had hints that it could run the new Civic Type R’s rorty 197bhp 2.0-litre engine. Here's hoping.
