Prices for the Mercedes SL have been announced. The SL 350 is available for £72,495 on-the-road, while the SL 500 will cost £83,445.
Both models will arrive in showrooms next month, and will be followed by the SL 63 AMG and SL 65 AMG later this year.
The announcement reveals £4000 price increase for the SL 350 and a £1700 increase for the SL 500. However, the new SL should be a more affordable ownership proposition: the SL 350 emissions are reduced from 217g/km to 176g/km, a saving of £275 in road tax for the first year.
The SL 500 emissions drop from 382g/km to 214g/km, representing a £430 saving in the first year road tax rate.
Aluminium construction means the sixth-generation Mercedes SL is up to 140kg lighter than before, meaning both cars are around 30 per cent more efficient. Despite this, the 3.5-litre V6 in the SL 350 develops 306bhp and 273lb ft allowing a 0-62mph of 5.8sec. The SL 500’s 4.7-litre V8 produces 435bhp and 516lb ft for a 0-62mph in 4.6sec.
Standard equipment includes a boot which can be opened and closed by waving a foot under the rear bumper and a more efficient windscreen washer system. Frontbass speakers operate in the footwells for improved sound reproduction.
