Pirelli will present an offer to the Formula One teams to become the sport's sole tyre supplier for 2011 before the Spanish grand prix.
The Italian firm joins Michelin and Cooper Avon in bidding for the contract, although Pirelli is the first supplier to indicate it is only interested in being a sole supplier and not take part in a 'tyre war', as Michelin is keen to be involved in.
"Pirelli communicates its decision to present a technical and commercial offer for supply of tyres to all the teams in the Formula One world championship," the firm said.
"The company plans to present the bid to the FIA and FOA by 9 May, the date of the next Formula One grand prix to be held in Spain."

Or it could more likely be that one manufacturer's tires are always better than everybody else's and half the teams are stuffed for the season...

Shame Pirelli don't want to compete. It'd be cool if F1 does change to 18" rims and several manufacturers enter. That way the smaller teams could be factory teams for someone like Kumho or Yokahama and that'll help them save cost. It could be (although admittedly unlikely) the smaller companies come up with a better tyre for a given circuit than Michelin and that'll give some different results.
