Porsche releases details of the 911 GT3 RSR endurance racer

Porsche has released details of its new GT3 RSR race car, the most powerful racing 911.

Powered by an increased capacity six-cylinder engine, up from 3.8 litres to 4.0 litres, the new Porsche 997 GT3 RSR produces 444bhp at 7800rpm. The torque curve has also been optimised, allowing the GT3 RSR to reach its maximum torque of 317lb ft at 7250rpm.

Porsche has paid close attention to the airflow over the car, redesigning the front and rear of the standard GT3 RS body.

One of the most significant aerodynamic modifications to the new Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is the larger air outlets in the front apron. This allows customers to specify air conditioning for the first time. The carbon fibre rear wing also allows a wider range of adjustments.

The 911 GT3 RSR is designed to compete as a long-distance racer in the American Le Mans series and Nurburgring 24-hour race, and has undergone a thorough weight-saving programme for the task.

The RSR lowers the standard GT3 RS’s kerb weight from 1375kg to 1245kg thanks to a full carbon fibre body, lighter wiring systems and a cabin stripped of all sound deadening.

Mechanical changes include a six-speed sequential gearbox, fully adjustable suspension, lightweight racing brakes and a three-plate carbon fibre clutch.

The RSR gets the standard role cage and a six-point safety harness from the GT3 RS and also comes with an air jack and quick-fuel system.

UK customers can order the Porsche GT3 RSR through Porsche GB, but will have to pay around £400k. Customer race teams will have access to Porsche Motorsport’s technical support team.
